Chinese Bird Flu Epidemic: Again

Well, eight sites with confirmed Avian Flu in the live bird population is not exactly an epidemic. Exactly 33 humans have been confirmed with Avian Flu thus far and 9 have died.

If you remember the Avian Flu Scare of the early 2000’s, this one is not (reportedly) as severe yet. It is early, to be sure, but the Chinese authorities seem to be moving with tests and quarantines faster this time, sans the apologetics this time.

Remember that a flu epidemic in 1918 killed an estimated one-quarter of the world’s population. Reportedly, it could have been contained with less loss of life if world governments had cooperated earlier.

Let’s keep an eye on this one.
