Field and Mary Scovell Scholarship Award: Brag, Brag, Brag

Our oldest granddaughter, Faith Atchley, was one of ten High School Recipients of the Field and Mary Scovell Sholarship Award. We went to the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dallas for the awards ceremony last night.

How big a deal was this evening? Brad Sham, voice of the Dallas Cowboys, was the emcee. Brad Sham.

This is what I learned:

The Field and Mary Scovell Scholarship Foundation has been around for 28 years. They have given out more than a million dollars in scholarships in that time.

The foundation is named in honor of Field Scovell, who was chairman of the Cotton Bowl Selection Committee. His wife, Mary, was an integral part of his volunteer work.

I also learned the Scovell family is comprised of the nicest rich people I have ever met. Their family, down through great grandchildren, were present last night. They came early and went about meeting all the recipients and their families. They demonstrated genuine, intentional interest in knowing the young people and their families.

There were about 1,000 applicants for the Scovell Sholarships this year. Faith was honored to be one of the ten selected.

We are very grateful to the Scovell family for their kindness and generosity.
