I look around to see
all our little blessings
looking back at me.
Some are bigger than me now
but
I remember
when they rode on my arm
or slept on my shoulder
or held up pudgy hands to me.
And
with all these grown-up blessings
I spend a lot of my days crying for you.
With all this family
in the midst of all this present flesh
I have a soul-sized empty spot
because
I wanted also
the blessing of you.
So,
yes,
I am spoiled
and trying not
to be angry only
or bitter mostly
because I do not get
the blessing of you.
