These folks and others helped me get to my $2,000 goal for our charity, Chains of Grace. Chains of Grace is a non-profit, privately funded, Christ-centered ministry that provides re-entry supervision and services for men and women coming out of incarceration.

Chains of Grace takes people from jails and prisons to safe houses where they can start their lives over again. Re-entry is bewildering and difficult. Chains of Grace helps by:

  • Offering transportation from jails to safe houses
  • Providing safe, affordable housing
  • Document retrieval for Social Security cards, Drivers License, Birth Certificates, etc.,
  • Employment assistance with felon friendly employers
  • Worship services
  • Bible studies
  • Overcomers Drug and Alcohol Recovery
  • Food
  • Clothing
  • Medical and Dental help
  • Transportation to Required Counseling and Therapy
  • Transportation to Parole meetings

These are the basics provided by Chains of Grace directly. We also help persons reconnect with families.

For instance, last week, one of our fellows, who we will call J, talked to his now teenage son.

J and his son had not talked for ten years prior to their conversation last week.

Ten years. A decade without hearing the boy’s voice. Age six to sixteen, without a word.

Their telephone reunion took some doing. There is a lot of work left to do. But, they talked last week, on the phone, for thirty minutes, for the first time the boy can even remember.
