The Second of the Ten Commandments for the 21st Century Pastor/Minister

2. Thou shalt seek God early in the morning, at noonday and in the evening.

If you have an inner life, you may protect yourself against a double life.

If you spend any time with media you are most likely aware of the famously fallen. This space is definitely not dedicated to deepen their suffering nor to enjoy their demise.

Instead, we can and will say there are people who recognize our talents and push us forward, sometimes beyond our abilities to follow God through life. Egocentrism is the turbo booster.

Walter Wangerin, Jr., writes, "The proud look down on people because they do not look up to God" (Preparing for Jesus, p. 87).

Verticality is the perfect domain of God. It is the funnel shaped tunnel to the human heart, the place where God disciples man. Devote yourself to the vertical. Get perspective on earth by the skyward search. Get lost in the high places and so find your way in the lower steppes.

So, how do you keep your 3 year old from interrupting your quiet time each morning? How do you keep the office door closed without appearing “unapproachable”. I’m having a hard time striking the balance between person & pastor!

    Rick,
What are the particulars of your inner life atm. What are you doing to stay fresh, spiritually?
